Ashlée was off to work early so I puttered doing laundry, etc and decided to text Nancy to see if she could cut and colour my hair. Of course she said come on over this afternoon so I got ready and walked the 20 minutes or so down to Oliver’s where Ashlée works to get her car. What a treat that walk was. St. John’s is a maze of roads with row houses right up to the sidewalk. The newer ones have been designed to blend well with the old.
I love the mailboxes that mimic the homes.
This street was a real misnomer
the colours and wee parks and churches were lovely
I decided to try the Toutons with chocolate but asked for the crumbled bacon too, which was good but I liked Ashlée’s better
No wimpy little N on the back around here!
I headed out to Paradise for a lovely salon session at Nancy’s and it had started to snow finally. I headed back to pick Ash up from work so we could get dinner before the concert
We went to Nautical Nellies which pleased me as there is a great restaurant with the same name in Victoria on the west coast. I had lobster crepes which were delicious
And then it was off to the Delta Hotel for Shanneyganock Christmas. On the way we passed O’Reilly’s, Named Canada’s favourite bar by Enroute Magazine.
We were very early so stopped in the hotel pub for a brew and it filled up with US military men
The warm up duo were Gilly Hickey and they were very good and entertaining
Next was Rum Ragged whose CD releases March 4th and they are fantastic
By the time they were finished the standing only crowd had packed the place and the booze was flowing. We were right at the front and I am sure glad as our lack of tall would have been a downer otherwise. I had no expectations and was blown away by these guys
I have a crush on Patrick Brown, the fiddle player
They ended the night with Ode to Newfoundland and the entire place sang along. It was powerful stuff. I was lucky enough to be able to shake the hand of Chris Andrews after the show. I have uploaded what video I took to my YouTube channel Geckosgal. The aftermath was something
As we’d been enjoying our rum, we decided to walk home, up hill all the way. Wasn’t long enough though, my ears are still ringing. What a great night!
