Just another day in the life

I woke up and ate this for breakfast, yep that’s right…

2015/01/img_6065.jpgand then we went here

2015/01/img_6066.jpgThat’s how we roll on my last full day here. If I drank that beer I could equip my life with cool stuff. Ash had made a list of things she felt I should or would love to see and do. Today we set out to complete what was left on it. Next up was the Railway Coastal Museum.

2015/01/img_6075.jpgit was mostly reading but pretty informative. The Reid family sure had a stronghold on transportation in the province, both by rail and sea. I learned a lot and the restored sections of the rail cars were very interesting. The woman who worked there shared the story of her sister being one of the first women to work on the rails in the ’90s and the abuse she took for it. I was the first female trainman/yardman for CPRail in the Kootenays back in the late ’80s and it was nice to know that although I had some pretty big issues from some of the guys, mostly I was welcome to my job by comparison. Next stop was The Basilica of St. John the Baptist. What an incredibly beautiful and peaceful space. Although relatively new by Basilica standards it felt rich in architecture and history. As we were standing in the chapel a gentleman asked if we would like to see it with the Christmas lights on the altar. Of course it was beautiful and I was grateful to see it this way.

2015/01/img_6087.jpgOne special part to me after recently having been in Peru and seeing the processions of Saints was the Shrine to Our Lady of Fatima. The story and respect from all sides pleases me

2015/01/img_6085.jpgit had snowed more and when we returned to the outside I wandered to take a few pictures and Ash helped a man down the steep and icy sidewalk

2015/01/img_6096.jpgWe found a place to park for free and walked down Wilcots Lane behind Spirit of Newfoundland which held lovely sights of tree forts and light balls

2015/01/img_6098.jpgBy now I was starving so we decided to hit up The Ship pub. It was underwhelming and overpriced. Not a place I would go back to. After that we wandered the shops starting at Natural Boutiques, a very high end seal skin shop. I did love the blue coat but it was just under $4000!

2015/01/img_6105.jpgthis is where Ash had gotten her lovely lace up boots. As we walked past Oliver’s there was a knock on the window and one of her fave customers, Nancy was there. We stopped for a short visit before heading on our way.

2015/01/img_6106.jpgI was enamoured of the shoes and boots at Always in Vogue but the staff were snooty and basically we were invisible. I guess they weren’t aware I am the kind who will drop big bucks on shoes, oh well.

2015/01/img_6107.jpgAt The Living Pantry I picked up a t-shirt that references the pub crawl, expert level. At Johnny Ruth’s & Living Planet I just enjoyed all the cleverness and picked up a decal that says ‘Comes From Away’

2015/01/img_6124.jpgI was on a mission to find an item for my Pandora collection and finally did at the Golden Tulip

2015/01/img_6139.jpgAt Rosie the Rebel I wanted to buy several vintage style dresses but resisted. I did pick up the most darling pinky ring in the shape of an anchor. It was a lovely evening for a wander as the winds have died down but people are starting to talk about the big dump of snow expected.

2015/01/img_6128.jpgOn the way back to the store we came across a Blundstone’s store and I convinced Ash to try a pair on. I love them and would love to get another pair. Was so surprised at the options since my originals back in the day, there are even steel toed or dress ones

2015/01/img_6131.jpgAs we hiked the hill to the car I see my girl stop and squiggle on the sidewalk. I approach and see she’s seen a bird in the footprints

2015/01/img_6132.jpgWe drove over to the top side of Harbourside Park and ran across to Fred’s.
