Just another day in the life

08-11-24 RTK day 3

August 11, 2024

I had a decent sleep in did some chores relaxed a little and crocheted well, I finished watching #blackAF

I showed up for my shift early and then had time to run home and grab my Loops which I wouldn’t have survived without.

I worked 50/50 most of the event and really enjoyed myself. Many people commented on or stopped me to take a picture of my shirt.

First band up was Nick Gilder with Sweeney Todd. Part way through their set we were all evacuated into the arena for 30 minutes due to light within a 10km radius. There were wee kids playing hockey and they must have been surprised when everyone poured in and started cheering for them.

After that set was finished it was time for Aldo Nova, whom I didn’t think I knew but I did recognize a song or two and I must say he was a class act, treating the fans special including coming out after for auto and giving everyone a pick for their time. he made me a fan

Next up was Headpins who were here last year but with a different female lead singer. They were good but seriously I would love to have seen Darby Mills who was an idol of mine back in the day. the current singer was very good

The night ended with Nazareth whom I always wanted to see, even though Pete is the only original member. Of course I was waiting to hear Love Hurts

26617.50 is the total Rotary raised from 50/50!!

All in all, it was a lovely weekend

08-10-24 RTK Day 2

August 10, 2024

Mom woke me up with a call for clothes. She’s tired of her hospital gown. I picked up Monica and we went to bottle our shared batch of Raspberry Rosé. It was my last batch there as Bill is shutting down. he served us our usual snacks and I was shocked that he still had stoned wheat thins. It was the last box. I treasured the snack of my favourite now no longer made crackers.

Monica paid for the wine and I took us out for lunch to Sakura. I do love sushi. After dropping her off I picked up Moms clothes and dropped them off to her.

I made it in time to my shift from 2:15 to 7. The first half was at a booth and the second wandering the crowd. By nights end the pot was huge! when I arrived Chilliwack was doing their sound check and I leaned on the rails until Bill Henderson looked down. He seemed to know me but wasn’t sure. I said I was Marnée at Mouat’s and he said ‘oh of course I recognize you’. It was awesome to see him

First band up was Doug and the Slugs

Next was Chilliwack and I do love them so much

54-40 was next and I was today it to make a connection with Matt who I have known for about 28 years. It was fun to chat back and forth with Tim, their road manager though.

Finally it was time for Glass Tiger, the 50/50 draw and to call it a night

08-09-24 Rocking the Kootenays night 1

August 9, 2024

I had a pretty good day, got lots of work done e at a nice pace, managing to stay zen

I arrived at Western Financial Place for my 4:45 Rotary 50/50 shift. I had a great shift working with our MLA Tom Shypitka. We had great talks and laughs when I found out he used to own the bar, Jugheads. Juggies was one of my main hangouts late night in the late ‘80s. I’m sure I must have known him back then. We laughed at who we were then and where we are now.

The music was good although the sound wasn’t the greatest for Prism or Big Wreck. Trooper killed it. Soundtrack of high school night

That Song
We’re here for a good time
Janine

I love my new sun shade

I met a couple from Williams Lake who know my cousins

The winner took home $5787.50!

08-08-2×4 lucky number day

August 8, 2024

I slept to a point t of not wanting to get up this morning. It was the usual jumping around Thursday. I was greeter at Rotary lunch, enjoyed the talk about Angel Flight, and got a fair amount of work done before heading down to Summer Sounds.

Opener was Tom Bungay who I really enjoyed and then Blues Steel from Fernie who were great. It was the perfect temperature summer evening.

A day of tears, I am done

Good was that I received my new Lego project today.

Bad was that I couldn’t get a hold of my emotions and spend a great deal of my day regretting what I choose to do for a living

Good was that I reached out to my mom for a good cry and then to Mark for three games of Outsmarted.

Eventually, the good will outweigh the bad

The one thing I know about this life is that this too shall pass

08-05-24 Monday missions

August 5, 2024

I was up pretty early, got more chores done and then headed to help clear out what is left at the Grey house. I did come home with a door mat, a work light and a gorgeous sounding wind chime. I will go back this week and take the metal recycle away. I stopped to visit Mom who hadn’t answered my text from last evening. She’s fine, watching olympics and doing her exercises. I did some weeding and then came in to do my puzzle that either the cat or raccoons had made a mess of. The other item I snagged from the clean up is a very thick piece of vinyl that works perfectly to cover the puzzle in process.

08-04-24 even the sky cried

August 5, 2024

I woke up after a good sleep in to find a message from Rae that Addison, Vanessa and Chevelle were going to be ready to leave soon. I jumped into my house coat and headed over. It is hard to say goodbye to friends like family. They are moving closer to family in Billings Montana. That is about the same drive away as Vancouver. There were tears shed

Once home I realize I should mow the weeds as rain is forecast. Glad I did as the sky opened up later

I relaxed after getting all my laundry and unpacking of MusicFest stuff done. Confession: I have not fully unpacked my suitcase yet.

I watched all of The Sandman and am happy to see that another season is coming

Mark beat me two games to one in Outsmarted. We really are enjoying this game.

08-02-24 Happy Speakeasy Birthday

August 2, 2024

Today was a lot. I got up early as a client said she had to phone me before 9:15. She didn’t so I got in the shower and off to the office to later find that she had responded to an email instead. I worked my tail off and then headed to pick up party supplies before coming home to get dressed.

I hosted a party for Rae-Anne’s 40th that is coming up. I bought an adult birthday party in a train car at the history centre. There were 13 of us and a good time was had. Jeff and Dee-Anne brought an incredible cake and wee shrimp cocktails that were a big hit. I supplied special beer, some snacks and games. The 30 second mystery game as well as You’re Getting Old were perfect for the occasion. Unfortunately Rae had a migrant she stuck out for two hours. The pictures were worth it.

It was stupid hot today and I put the first scratch in my car with my backpack, sigh

Mark and I played two games of Outsmarted and I won for the second and third time. One of them was our high score.

08-01-24 poor critter

August 1, 2024

I stepped out this morning to find a beautiful creature dead on my sidewalk. roger said it was an ermine. I suspect it was done in by the raccoons as Missy was in all night. I felt so sad for it, hard to explain why. I did reach out on Facebook Cranbrook page without the picture. A woman involved in pet rescue replied and I private messaged her the pic. This was her response

It was a busy day as always. Andrew helped me set up a new email software which worked great to bring in all my mail and folders but made my computer not want to do anything as it was ‘full’. I had to clear out a lot of past things. Ashley, the new GroundFloor manager joined me as guest at Rotary lunch. She is just a lovely personality and will be an asset.

After working for the afternoon, I headed down to Rotary to emcee and manage the booths. It was a lovely evening with Three Bar Line Dance Troop, Anie Radish, and Oracle Jones. we awarded Dawson with a shirt as he is a very loyal fan. He was so happy!
