Just another day in the life

10-17-24 Friends Night

October 17, 2024

Today held an interesting Rotary lunch as member, Kevin O’Driscoll, gave his bio about growing up in Ireland, the most beautiful country in the world, if you put a roof on it. Following that we all headed to an open house for members and city council at Scott Villa, our Rotary housing for low income seniors. Two of the studio units were recently completely renovated and are beautiful. Hope is that we can build more down the road.

After getting some work done I headed out to the KOA grounds at St Eugene to spend the evening with Dave and Deb. We had a delicious meal and great conversation. I am so glad they moved here. They are living in their gorgeous new trailer while waiting for completion on the house being built. The full Hunter moon is stunning and quite lights up the night sky.

10-16-24 Pippin!

October 16, 2024

Left work to have an amazing pedicure, a great chat, appt and bevies at Fenwick and Baker and then a show at Cranbrook Community Theatre.

In 1980, I was blessed to see Jeff Hyslop play Pippin when the show came to our high school theatre. Also, in 1980, it turns out that my friend and stage manager, played Pippin in the CCT production. Imagine my complete surprise to see him onstage 44 years later in a purposely uncredited cameo performance! I was moved to tears. Well done everyone involved and thanks for that blessing.

I talked to the director, Sanjay, after the show and told him that I snuck pictures. He told me to post them on my socials but I said I would wait until closing night so as to keep the surprise for others who may remember Bob Kary.

What a wonderful show and surprise!

Also, the Lead, Courteny Green, was the female version of our Matt Van Boeyen and I look forward to the day that they fill the theatre together!

10-15-24 Brent Butt

October 15, 2024

Today was very full of lots of work before heading to Key city to volunteer. I was grateful to be able to work the door for very big house all there to see comedian Brent Butt. The opener was Stuart Jones who did a solidly entertaining half hour. Brent was endearing, pretty clean and responsive on the fly to the audience. I snuck a small video after he had been talking about 5 pin bowling and then asked where everyone was going after. Someone shouted out 5 pin bowling at Encore..

My back barely made it through the day. Home to take a pain killer

10-14-24 back issues

October 14, 2024

I was awoken by a sore lower back again. Unfortunately I forgot a bag last night that held the meds. Bill and Ashlée kindly brought them to me. Once they kicked in I was able to get laundry and a few other chores done. Mostly though, I binged KAOS. It is brilliant and as I finish the last episode of Season 1, I am saddened to learn they didn’t make any more.

I look forward to taking a pill and crawling into my nice fresh bedding. There will be much to do tomorrow.

Dinner was good

10-13-24 Family Thanksgiving

October 13, 2024

I was jolted awake this morning at 7:16 with my lower back seized up. I climbed into a CBD bath and watched The Circle hoping to loosen it up. It somewhat worked but as I was prepping the veggies for dinner,

Jake dropped off the Brussels sprouts for me to ready and I gave Will his Panamá hat that I brought him and he was very happy

I dropped some and couldn’t pick them up. I managed to get everything prepped as Deb messaged me to go for a walk at Elizabeth Lake. It was a good walk and visit but my back was not happy

I picked up Mom for dinner and we all had a lovely time. The many hands that brought parts of dinner made it all delicious and I was happy to share the souvenirs I had brought back

After dinner we played games, a version of Hungry Hungry ‘Hippos’ and then Jackbox (which I won)

I came home after stopping to buy a bottle of BlackBerry Crown and had a visit with Tracey who had to put her cat of 15 years down yesterday. I am sorry for her loss.

10-12-24 The Wild Robot

October 12, 2024

Picked up the 4 youngest and took them to the Haunted Graveyard. It was nice but I suspect it will be better at night.

We then met Jake and Ashlée at the movies to see The Wild Robot. It did not disappoint!

Afterwords Lukas and I stopped at Cobs for some buns and headed back to the house for a delicious dinner mostly cooked by Gene.

Had a catch up visit and then everyone split off to do other things so I came home.

It was a good Saturday

10-11-24 A Decade of Galen

October 11, 2024

Missy was not especially impressed with the frosty grass this morning

I had a good work morning and then Emmy was dropped off to spend time with me as she awaited her Dad’s arrival. She was really great hanging out in my office and then joined me at Galen’s surprise party for his 10 years as Artistic Director at Key City Theatre. The crowd entered through the stage door and hid behind the curtain on stage. He was properly surprised and a lovely time was had.

Next we headed to the Guedes house and enjoyed spaghetti dinner. I had a good visit with Rae and finally just couldn’t wait any longer for Jake as I was having allergies.

Jake and I talked an hour or so later as he was running late. He got caught going 90 in a 50 just this side of Creston and got a stiff ticket. He was told he was lucky it would take an hour and a half for a tow truck or he’d get impounded. He swears his Tesla told him he was going the speed limit.

10-10-24 Northern Lights

October 10, 2024

Highlights:

Accepted a cheque for 1447.55 from Rotary Club of Cranbrook on behalf of Fisher Peak Performing Artists for our share of the 50/25/25 sales at Summer Sounds.

Voted!

Took Mom to her meet and great with Dr Piesh. He seems lovely and we are happy

Went to the Friends With Benefits monthly social

Picked up my feathers from Paul, the lead singer of the Hip Replacements

Bowled with Roger and Jesse

Stayed for trivia with Dee-Anne, Andrew and Roger and we came second to a big team. Won a jug of beer for next time.

Drove to the outskirts of town and took some photos. Nothing showed up through the lens, all a miracle of iPhone long exposure

10-09-24 Saltine kind of day

October 9, 2024

I had a client text and call seconds after my alarm went off so I stayed in bed to solve his issues. We had a good laugh about it. Next was meeting a client in office to work on her two company files and she brought along her adorable 6 month old son, Zev. I love the name which apparently means wolf in Hebrew. Next was a new client in to set up his file. Got a few more things done and finally called it done.

Came home and made the perfect dinner for a day like this

Haha, a clip from Son of a Critch. I remember watching it back in ‘84 (although they say 88 in the show) and laughing. Holy Fodder, so East Coast

The best news of the day was that Mom finally got a Doctor after two years! I take her tomorrow to meet

10-08-24 Choices

October 8, 2024

I watched the Leaders Debate tonight and once again was impressed with the Green Platform. They brought their cards to the table and I do like their financial plan especially about cutting bureaucracy in Healthcare. it was good dinner entertainment

My frames arrived today and I got the first two filled with a couple of my souvenirs. The Marine Iguana is made of Banana Leaf and the Tortoise is from pop cans, both art pieces endemic to Galapagos

The sad news today was the death of 17 year old Nell Smith from Fernie.

10-07-24 FWB and All Candidates

October 7, 2024

A lovely start to the day was getting a message from Rae-Anne that the lead singer of The Hip Replacements had dropped off his feathers to give to me. What a sweet gesture! I shall add them to my fedora

After work it was off to Encore for the Friends With Benefits tasting evening. There were new foods to try and good company. I also came home with a new t-shirt, not that I need anymore, I just love Dad Rock

This followed immediately by the All Candidates Forum at Key City Theatre for the upcoming provincial election. I must say that I was very impressed by Kerri Wall of the Green Party, which quite surprised me The applause told me there were a lot of big C Conservatives in the audience.

10-05-24 The Hip Replacements

October 6, 2024

Tonight was a lot of fun hanging with Dave and Deb at Encore for the show. I e seen the actual Tragically Hip three times and these guys do a great cover. The lead singer acknowledged my hat from the stage and afterward came to our table and said he was going to offer me his feathers but realized he didn’t have others with him.

10-04-24 Poker Night

October 5, 2024

Today was good

I got a lot done

I woke up and made food for the day

I laughed at a meme that shows me I am Gen X

I went to poker night with treats from M & M Foods where I was served by Tim whom I dated back when I first moved here.

Poker at Landon’s with Shawna and Tim, Kathy, Tyler, Galen, Alyssa, and new guy, Canyon was fun as we caught up with each other. I didn’t do well but had a good time.

10-03-24 volunteer night

October 3, 2024

I got a lot done today and made my way to Key City Theatre to run bar for a Rock Legends show. It’s been a while since I have volunteered and it was good to be back. People were happy to be at the sold out show and it was fun to see so many familiar faces. I picked up my gift from the Vollie party that I missed.

10-02-24 so tired

October 2, 2024

Not sure why I am dragging butt. I woke up before six, fell asleep again and struggled when my alarm went off. I got through the day, getting payroll and filings done as well as the invitations to or FPPAS Vollie party on the 25th at Encore.

Got home after 7, had a quick visit with Tracey and then made nummy tuna melts on garlic toast for dinner.

Currently crocheting and watching Celebrity IOU with intention of tucking in soon.

10-01-24 hello October!

October 1, 2024

I received an email from the guy who was on the second snorkel trip with us. I had given him my card as he took pics of me enjoying myself that day

It was a good memory and set the tone for the rest of my day.

I took care of soooooo many things today and it wasn’t stressful at all.

Once home I made a quick meal, leaving out the red pepper but still used the spices. I may regret what it is doing to my gut, but it was so delicious

09-30-24 Eldest Daughter Day

September 30, 2024

It was National Truth and Reconciliation day today. I acknowledge that I live in the traditional territories of the Ktunaxa peoples and have been blessed in the past to live in the Heiltsuk Territories. I have lived in other places, on unceded lands, but was not aware at the time. I am glad that I have been taught so much more than I ever learned in school about our treatment of those who were here first.

I awoke to a text from Rae-Anne asking if I wanted to go for a drive to Kimberley and catch up. I picked her up an hour later and we had a great afternoon strolling in and out of stores in the platzl. We also stopped at the Marysville Falls for me to enjoy the new boardwalk.

After a quick stop at Superstore it was off to Safeway where I picked up a free $200 Tassimo machine when I scanned my Scene card and bought 5 packages of coffee.

We ended the afternoon with a great meal at Heidout. It was so great to have time to catch up

09-29-24 Girls night out

September 29, 2024

I did laundry and chores today and crocheted a little.

I have a problem with Carlos wanting more than I have to give. For one, I am not impressed that we have to communicate only in Spanish. Two, he doesn’t ask me about myself at all, just expresses love and wants to chat regularly. The problem is that there is not much being said. I don’t want to break his heart but I may need to.

I met Leanne for dinner at Ella’s and had amazing fish and chips while we had a very nice visit. Next it was off to Key City Theatre where the Rotary ladies were gathering to see Menopause the Musical. There was an extra ticket so Deb met us there. The show was very funny and well performed. Expensive, but worth it.
