Just another day in the life

10-26-24 Maddisun

October 27, 2024

I really did plan to do only two things today, but I ended up doing two others.

Firstly, I was going to set up my Halloween inflatable collection, but it was pouring rain

Secondly, I was going to binge shows and ride the couch, but I saw there was a fundraiser at Encore and Maddisun was playing.

I am so glad that I went. Ashlée showed up with 4 of the teens and we all bowled. I hung around until after Maddisun was done and even purchased a button and a sticker.

I also took a picture of Steve from Cranbrook Dodge and turned it into a meme. I noted that my Facebook started showing me car adds while I was near him.

I stopped at Fenwick & Baker on the way home and had a nice visit with Jim. Then it was home to make food.

10-26-24 nail visit

October 26, 2024

I am beginning to feel a bit better and woke up at a decent time. I was at my clients by 11:30 and left by 3:50 as I had managed to get a much needed nail appointment at 4. I enjoy my visits with Minh and he does a good job when I give him free rein. On the way home I stopped at Encore to pay the bill remaining from last night and ended up having a lovely visit with Marie Blackmore. She is very sweet and we talked about travel mostly. Once home I ate some leftover salad and watches my shows. I just love saying that as it was something my Nana always said.

I was invited to a costume engagement party tonight, but I am just not up to small talk with strangers. As one of the brides is someone I play poker with I was invited, but I am sure they won’t notice I’m not there.

10-25-24 Vollie party

October 25, 2024

Tonight was the FPPAS Vollie party at Encore and everyone seemed to have a great time. There were prizes and great food and bowling. The best comment was from a person who was just there on their own, not with us, who said she’d told her husband that she should volunteer for us seeing how well we test our volunteers. That’s a win for this party planner.

10-24-24 the good news is..

October 24, 2024

Rotary lunch was interesting with a talk from Chad Fitz who runs the Trout Hatchery.

I filled up at Shell on the way back to the office at 131.9! $.20/L off with the app.

My Dr called at 3 with most of my results from yesterday already. I have no issues with Thyroid, iron, B12, diabetes etc. basically a clean bill of health and no signs of infection. That brings me joy but also… why do I feel like shite?!

Sigh maybe it is just depression acting in weird symptoms

10-23-24 Family Matters

October 23, 2024

I was awake just after 6, likely beauty brain knew I needed to get to the lab. After collecting my sample, I arrived just before 8 and was number 7. The number was at 88 when I arrived and I was told it would be at least two hours due to appointments and oncology hour. I had brought my book so I settled in. Around 9:48 with us only up to 99, I thought to cancel my appointment on the 31st. Out of curiosity I checked the app to see if there had been any changes only to find that there was a 9:30 this morning available. As it was already 20 minutes after that, I headed to the reception and asked if I could confirm it. She said yes and my name showed up on her screen right away. Moments later my name was called and I was out of there by 10! What a wonderful stroke of luck.

Back at the office I was grateful when late afternoon Cassidy and Maya stopped by. They are lovely girls and it was so nice to have Maya here for once. She loves Cranbrook and would fit in well here. Their favourite shop was HillBilly Hardware where they each well supported a locally owned small business.

We had plans to meet at Encore and they would pick up my Mom. I got there first and found the Heavy Metal bands doing soundcheck for later. Not bearable for a visit so we switched to Fire Hall. Gene was working, Ash brought the other three boys, and Roger popped in after work. Too bad Rae had to work until 9. We had good food and a great visit. I was a bit emotional when I let them all know how perfect the timing was as it would have been my Dad’s 85th birthday today had he not crashed his floatplane 20 years ago. He would be so proud of his heirs.

10-22-24 looking for an answer

October 22, 2024

I have been struggling with my mental and physical health since I returned from Ecuador. Today I was finally able to see my Dr as I waited a weeks to see if it would pass. I have been suffering a deep malaise, many muscle issues, headaches, abdominal issues and fatigue. As I suspected, my Dr said he doesn’t know about things you can catch in Ecuador but ordered lab work. I headed there only to find that they are understaffed and I had to book an appointment with the earliest being on October 31! He has some concern that I may have picked up a parasite, sigh.

I had a bite to eat at Encore and then headed to see Karissa for a trim. I am pleased with the result.

There was a deer crossing my path that headed into a yard down the street. Poor thing was decorated

10-21-24 payroll and board

October 21, 2024

Today was a lot. I was busy for the better part of 12 hours with work and a Board meeting. After we went to BP for some food and a drink so that was good. I had popped home earlier to put my Hello Fresh for the week in the fridge only to discover that I hadn’t reviewed my meals and two of the three were pepper based. Fortunately Tracey was happy to buy them from me. Dang intolerances!

10-20-24 gate day

October 20, 2024

After a decent sleep I relaxed and crocheted before I felt the wind had calmed enough to go out and make a new gate. As I was using what I had in hand, it is a bit scrapped together and I will need to move the entire part attached to the trailer once I have a helper. For now it looks better and is much more functional, even swinging both ways which will help when it snows. it also gives a bit more privacy and will keep out the deer

10-19-24 how is it so..

October 19, 2024

I went to a client and took only an hour to get the file done which was good, especially on a Saturday. On the way home I stopped at Home Depot to look at gate options as mine is on its last legs. I ended up buying a decorative panel that I will make into one. It is too cool and windy today so I will look at doing it tomorrow. I do love my tree and yard right now.

I made a nice meal and then chocolate chip cookies.

I packed up cookies and headed to poker night at Galen’s. Clockwise around the table were Bob, Landon, new guys Chris and Brandon, Jesse, Galen, Kion and Kathy. I had to buy in and had some bad beats. A good time was had though.

The terrible part of the evening was finding out that Pete Davis of the Conservative Party had won our riding. I am afraid for our province if the conservatives win over all. It is close at the moment.

The worst part of the day is seeing the news of the atmospheric river hitting the west coast. I suspect it had a big impact on getting voters out.

10-18-24 connection

October 18, 2024

I got ready this morning by putting on the shirt that Emmy picked out for me so that I could wear white as a Key City volunteer

After a fairly gruelling work day, I stopped at Encore for a quick bite and then headed to the theatre. Imagine my Argo find out that I wasn’t on the schedule but that they could use me to do merch. Of course I said I’d stay as I was hoping to see Bill Usher again. I didn’t have to do much and was grateful to get to see a good part of the show. He and The Space heaters were great! Paul Pigat I’d seen at MusicFest with Cousin Harley years ago and we had a sad chat about the downfall of festivals. Holly Hyatt was fabulous and wow what a connection I made with Steve Briggs! I’d posted a picture and Lorraine Hansen from Powell River, where Steve grew up, sent me a private message that her husband, Jim Willoughby, and Steve’s Dad were best friends before they both passed. After the show I introduced myself to Steve and explained that my Dad and Jim had been besties in the ‘70s and that he had been one of my childhood heroes. Steve told me a great Jim story and we had a lovely moment. He hugged me and thanked me for coming to talk to him. What a small world when a musician from Toronto and a local volunteer connect over their west coast upbringing.

I was right where I was supposed to be as always.

10-17-24 Friends Night

October 17, 2024

Today held an interesting Rotary lunch as member, Kevin O’Driscoll, gave his bio about growing up in Ireland, the most beautiful country in the world, if you put a roof on it. Following that we all headed to an open house for members and city council at Scott Villa, our Rotary housing for low income seniors. Two of the studio units were recently completely renovated and are beautiful. Hope is that we can build more down the road.

After getting some work done I headed out to the KOA grounds at St Eugene to spend the evening with Dave and Deb. We had a delicious meal and great conversation. I am so glad they moved here. They are living in their gorgeous new trailer while waiting for completion on the house being built. The full Hunter moon is stunning and quite lights up the night sky.

10-16-24 Pippin!

October 16, 2024

Left work to have an amazing pedicure, a great chat, appt and bevies at Fenwick and Baker and then a show at Cranbrook Community Theatre.

In 1980, I was blessed to see Jeff Hyslop play Pippin when the show came to our high school theatre. Also, in 1980, it turns out that my friend and stage manager, played Pippin in the CCT production. Imagine my complete surprise to see him onstage 44 years later in a purposely uncredited cameo performance! I was moved to tears. Well done everyone involved and thanks for that blessing.

I talked to the director, Sanjay, after the show and told him that I snuck pictures. He told me to post them on my socials but I said I would wait until closing night so as to keep the surprise for others who may remember Bob Kary.

What a wonderful show and surprise!

Also, the Lead, Courteny Green, was the female version of our Matt Van Boeyen and I look forward to the day that they fill the theatre together!

10-15-24 Brent Butt

October 15, 2024

Today was very full of lots of work before heading to Key city to volunteer. I was grateful to be able to work the door for very big house all there to see comedian Brent Butt. The opener was Stuart Jones who did a solidly entertaining half hour. Brent was endearing, pretty clean and responsive on the fly to the audience. I snuck a small video after he had been talking about 5 pin bowling and then asked where everyone was going after. Someone shouted out 5 pin bowling at Encore..

My back barely made it through the day. Home to take a pain killer

10-14-24 back issues

October 14, 2024

I was awoken by a sore lower back again. Unfortunately I forgot a bag last night that held the meds. Bill and Ashlée kindly brought them to me. Once they kicked in I was able to get laundry and a few other chores done. Mostly though, I binged KAOS. It is brilliant and as I finish the last episode of Season 1, I am saddened to learn they didn’t make any more.

I look forward to taking a pill and crawling into my nice fresh bedding. There will be much to do tomorrow.

Dinner was good

10-13-24 Family Thanksgiving

October 13, 2024

I was jolted awake this morning at 7:16 with my lower back seized up. I climbed into a CBD bath and watched The Circle hoping to loosen it up. It somewhat worked but as I was prepping the veggies for dinner,

Jake dropped off the Brussels sprouts for me to ready and I gave Will his Panamá hat that I brought him and he was very happy

I dropped some and couldn’t pick them up. I managed to get everything prepped as Deb messaged me to go for a walk at Elizabeth Lake. It was a good walk and visit but my back was not happy

I picked up Mom for dinner and we all had a lovely time. The many hands that brought parts of dinner made it all delicious and I was happy to share the souvenirs I had brought back

After dinner we played games, a version of Hungry Hungry ‘Hippos’ and then Jackbox (which I won)

I came home after stopping to buy a bottle of BlackBerry Crown and had a visit with Tracey who had to put her cat of 15 years down yesterday. I am sorry for her loss.

10-12-24 The Wild Robot

October 12, 2024

Picked up the 4 youngest and took them to the Haunted Graveyard. It was nice but I suspect it will be better at night.

We then met Jake and Ashlée at the movies to see The Wild Robot. It did not disappoint!

Afterwords Lukas and I stopped at Cobs for some buns and headed back to the house for a delicious dinner mostly cooked by Gene.

Had a catch up visit and then everyone split off to do other things so I came home.

It was a good Saturday

10-11-24 A Decade of Galen

October 11, 2024

Missy was not especially impressed with the frosty grass this morning

I had a good work morning and then Emmy was dropped off to spend time with me as she awaited her Dad’s arrival. She was really great hanging out in my office and then joined me at Galen’s surprise party for his 10 years as Artistic Director at Key City Theatre. The crowd entered through the stage door and hid behind the curtain on stage. He was properly surprised and a lovely time was had.

Next we headed to the Guedes house and enjoyed spaghetti dinner. I had a good visit with Rae and finally just couldn’t wait any longer for Jake as I was having allergies.

Jake and I talked an hour or so later as he was running late. He got caught going 90 in a 50 just this side of Creston and got a stiff ticket. He was told he was lucky it would take an hour and a half for a tow truck or he’d get impounded. He swears his Tesla told him he was going the speed limit.

10-10-24 Northern Lights

October 10, 2024

Highlights:

Accepted a cheque for 1447.55 from Rotary Club of Cranbrook on behalf of Fisher Peak Performing Artists for our share of the 50/25/25 sales at Summer Sounds.

Voted!

Took Mom to her meet and great with Dr Piesh. He seems lovely and we are happy

Went to the Friends With Benefits monthly social

Picked up my feathers from Paul, the lead singer of the Hip Replacements

Bowled with Roger and Jesse

Stayed for trivia with Dee-Anne, Andrew and Roger and we came second to a big team. Won a jug of beer for next time.

Drove to the outskirts of town and took some photos. Nothing showed up through the lens, all a miracle of iPhone long exposure
