Just another day in the life

06-04-24 Audition

June 4, 2024

I got a lot done today before coming home and spending an hour or so working over my monologue for my Cranbrook Community Theatre audition at 7:15. I feel that it went well and I am keeping my expectations low as there are many in my age range trying for only a few roles. It did feel good and I was happy that I did it.

Came home and started the puzzle I got from the Grey’s on my birthday. It isn’t big and I am not looking at the picture. It’s fun.

06-03-24 Lego Night!

June 3, 2024

The day was not exactly with the words.

The evening, however, has been a blast! I finished my Diamond Dot and the Brick Headz that arrived today. I forgot I had them on a waitlist order. All the while I was watching Season 3 of The Circle.

I was on such a roll that at quarter to 9 I started The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter and by quarter to 11, I was done. I love it. It came with super cute figures, storable jet pack and saber and even fires whatever the unit fires, well, in plastic, lol. Definitely has left me with a smile on my face and I am so glad I picked it up while I was away.

It went over 10’ away
Too fast for slo-mo

This new hobby definitely brings me joy, I am in the best mood that I have been in all day!

Night All!

06-02-24 Best Intentions

June 2, 2024

I slept much better last night, and feel caught up and on a regular schedule again. I had every intention of doing yard work today, but when I finally got dressed to go out it started to rain. I did take time between cloudbursts to install my dashcam in the new car, spent a little time further personalizing the dash, and helped Tracey install my pink and black seat covers in her car.

The rest of the time, I pretty much binged The Circle (am currently on season 3), did my Diamond Dot, and chilled out. June has a lot in it as I get ready for MusicFest and catch up some files to get them out of the way.

It was a pleasant weekend.

05-31-24 Canadian Artist Tribute Fundraiser

June 1, 2024

What a night! Tonight was our fundraiser for Fisher Peak Performing Artists Society at Key City Theatre. I was there for 2 pm setup, left to go pick up some delicious home made pretzels from Jeff Crozier and came home to change into a pretty dress and my Dr Bonnie Henry Fluevogs before picking up Ashlée who would sell merch and memberships for us. Back at the Theatre, I paced and tried to calm my nerves as I was to emcee for the night.

I had done my homework and had interesting facts for all the songs or artists being covered. There were 26 musicians from solo to duo to full bands filling 10 slots. The first half was 90 minutes and the second about an hour. It went dang smooth considering we had never done that much in one evening. Mark Rosini, the stage manager and keyboard/guitar in Pretty for the People did a great job with the volunteer crew. Matt on sound and Suzanne on lights were great and all the artists brought their A game. I had a blast, managed to fill the space with fun and humour for the changeovers and there were great comments afterward. My shoes and dress were a hit, lol.

The artists covered were in no particular order:

Rush, Anne Murray, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Tom Cochrane, Jeff Healey, David Francey, Shania Twain, Céline Dion, Serena Ryder, Alanis Morisette, Alannah Myles, Tragically Hip, The Band, Stompin’ Tom Connors, Blue Rodeo, Stan Rogers, Bare Naked Ladies, Stephen Fearing, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Murray Maclachlan, The Guess Who, and Ian Tyson.

After the big cleanup, many met up at the Prinn’s for an afterglow party. I am exhausted and had to take my leave. A good time was had by all and I hope we raised some money to help us keep the live music coming.

05-30-24 Hybrid Baby!

May 30, 2024

I did a fair amount of work today and then went to Rotary lunch where I was impressed by two young ladies who are doing amazing things in the world. One, Christina, was a Rotary exchange student from Brazil 8 years ago and now is a Dr of Psychiatry, hoping to complete her internship and practice in Miami. The other is Jelina, the daughter of a Rotarian who up and moved to South Korea where she is in full immersion schooling and will stay to take her Bachelor of Arts in acting… in the language she is learning there. Such bravery in both their stories!

I dropped my car at the dealership having cleared it out last night and they swapped my tires and roof rack with plans to have me ack for the Kootenay edition decals and bug deflector in the near future. I stopped in yesterday to the dealership for new wiper blades and found it was a good time to upgrade to the 2024 Hyundai Tucson hybrid N-line. I love this car. It has all the things I loved about my 2022 Tucson that I bought in 2021 and more. The automated tailgate, panoramic roof and upgraded interior are just three of the things, nevermind that I have always wanted a Hybrid! I am so happy with it and look forward to many adventures.

This evening I joined the Crozier family for Trivia night and we finished middle of the pack but had some fun.

It was a good day.

05-28-24 sigh

May 28, 2024

Today was a lot again. I am very good at my job, however, sometimes the challenges that are out of my control ate up my time. I know I am getting paid the same, but there is a different type of brain drain involved. I had hoped to play with Mark again, but was top tired out by the time I got home after 730. I have been sitting in my chair drinking Bourbon Bottle Red and watching Season 2 of The Circle. Now I shall go hit the hay.

I did manage to get things written up for Friday night’s emcee gig and dealt with a lot of VIMF stuff as well.

05-27-24 rough one

May 27, 2024

Today was a lot. I had to solve some heavy duty issues that others had created. By the time I headed home around 7:30, I felt as though I had put two days of thinking into one day.

It was wonderful to drive the jeep today.

I am too tired to think and am unwinding with diamond dot.

05-26-24 Important things

May 26, 2024

I slept in, relaxed a little and then got the Willys started and out of storage. Drove it to the office where I finished scheduling for MusicFest. That is a huge weight off and now I wait as the changes will roll in.

I went for a good long drive around town and then laughed when I parked as it is so much narrower than my car and is offside in the carport.

I made some food and then settled in to put the Light my Bricks kits in my two dioramas. I do love them

Next, I built the MTV award that Rae-Anne got me for Mother’s Day. I like it and enjoyed the build.

05-25-24 Outsmarted

May 26, 2024

I slept in, got ready and went to my dentist to get my night guard fitted.

After that I headed to the office to spend many hours working on MusicFest scheduling. I got 2/3rds of it done and decided to come home. I made a delicious dinner and talked Mark into trying Outsmarted. Three games later we just FaceTime chatted for a bit. I do worry about him.

05-23-24 holy Moly that was a full day!

May 23, 2024

I jumped all over the place today, filling the needs of many. Worked with the auditor for a client, attended the lunch for Rotary with the Bat lady telling us all about them, did a ton of data entry, and attended the Chamber due at Gipman Kitchens and Cabinets where Lukas got his first job recently.

I really enjoyed the chats at the Chamber after hours. The setting was impressive and as usual, the food from Ella’s was amazing. I gave Lukas a ride home after and as I was driving away Roger called to invite me to join them at trivia night at Encore as they needed a ‘ringer’ for the music part. Dee-Anne, Rae, Roger, Jesse, Nesta, Ryan and I kicked it and won! It was a lot of fun! I may join in as a host when needed and look forward to it.

I received my last, for now, Lego order today. It is getting hard to know which I will do first.

The best part of today was actually being reminded of how well I do what I do. The woman here to do the audit seemed happy with my work. I wish I didn’t always need external validation.

05-22-24 Day lights up early

May 22, 2024

My alarm was set for 5:30, yet for some reason I awoke 15 minutes before. It was in the shower and grab a quick coffee before heading to the radio station for 6:30 am. Mark, the state manager for the Tribute concert, and I were to have an interview with Dennis Walker on 2-Day FM. Unfortunately, Mark was a no show and I had to wing it as to the lineup for the show. I thought he would talk about the performers and I would talk about the reason why we are fundraising. Dennis is very good at the preamble and then once on air is good at stealing natural conversation. We had a good chuckle at the difference in our lifestyles. He gets up at 330 and I don’t often go to bed before midnight. I was surprised how light out it was when I woke up!

After the interview I headed to the office where I got a good 10 billable hours in and took some decent breaks along the way. I feel good to be prepared for a client’s auditors arriving tomorrow to do the initial work on their yearend.

I finally came home and watched The Season 25 Finale of The Voice, grateful to have not heard all day who had won. I was not surprised by the results. Now I am watching the Season 46 Finale of Survivor. It is that time of the year when things come to an end. I shall pick a monologue soon and start prepping for my audition. I think I would like to the in The Cemetery Club next Spring.

Now I should really get some sleep!

05-21-24 Whitening Day

May 21, 2024

It was a payroll, ROE, tax reconciling kind of day. I popped out for a couple hours in the afternoon to drop some bucks and get my teeth whitened at the dentist. My teeth have never really been white, and they aren’t really white now, but definitely less cream coloured. I didn’t have pain but do have a bit of a headache from the position of my neck and jaw for so long. I will see if it was worth it over the next couple weeks and as I use the night time treatment as needed. The weather has been cool and a bit miserable. I suppose we will be complaining about the heat and drought soon enough.

I received my $7.86 deposit from the LifeLabs Class action for data breach. Wow, seems like the lawyers are the only ones who gained out of this.

I watched the series finale of The Good Doctor tonight. I will miss it and the interesting characters. Funny how TV characters seem like they are part of real life.

I am currently watching the finale of The Voice, but it will finish too late so I will have to try not to hear who won until after my 6:30 am appt at the radio station for some live promo time for the Canadian Artists Tribute fundraiser on the 31st.

05-20-24 crafty chore day

May 20, 2024

I woke up before my alarm usually goes off, but felt rested and unstressed. I was going to worry about getting the jeep running today but the weather just isn’t making it worth it. At one point it was hailing out so loud that I had to turn up the TV. I ended up finishing season 4 of For all Mankind and have had The Ugliest House in America on while I crafted. I did install the lighting kit in my Endor diorama, but they aren’t coming on and I am too tired to deal with it now… stay tuned.

I did run a payroll from home to take some of the load off tomorrow as I have a dentist appointment in the afternoon.

05-19-24 For all mankind

May 19, 2024

I have managed a few chores in between episodes of the title show. I am now in Season 4. I am glad to hear there is a season 5 and apparently there is a spinoff Star City.

I did clear all the things from on and around the jeep and tried to start it, but there wasn’t enough battery to turn it over. My bad for forgetting to disconnect it for the winter. The fam is out at the cabin so I couldn’t borrow a charger. I will try to jump it with my car tomorrow if the sky stops leaking sporadically.

I did make a lovely salmon dinner and have been doing diamond work while watching the show.

Dear Diana surprised me with a knock on the door midday. She gave me two adorable ornaments for my collection that she said were supposed to be with my birthday gifts. She really did spoil me.

I love my post lights!!

And the others around the yard that will show up much better when I weed

05-18-24 Lukas is the Best!

May 18, 2024

I was so grateful to have no alarm to wake up to. I had a coffee and relax and then met the family at Encore. Kory is in town with Luna from Calgary and the cousins were all having a good visit together. After lunch, Lukas came with me and boy did we get a lot done over the afternoon and evening. It did rain on us off and on, but we persevered.

Took all the recycling

Picked up a new hose and water timer, post spikes, 4×4 fence posts, and solar caps (on sale) at Home Depot

Insured the Willys

Drove thru A&W as Lukas said he hadn’t eaten for 3 hours

Ate

Took down the old scabbed together fence

Built the new fence in a much nicer layout with posts solidly holding it.

Mowed the lawn for the first time this season. It was well overdue

Weeding will happen over the next couple days when the weather allows. I am so thrilled with the result

When we took back Bill’s sledgehammer and gloves I noticed that my right hand was sore where my rings were. That was when I noticed that the inner smaller one was bent and squishing my finger causing it to swell. Bill got a small tool and used my large ring as leverage to bend it back to normal. The swelling is going down and I can’t even imagine how I did it. I can’t believe what a difference a year has made. Lukas is a 14 year old who gave me no attitude whatsoever, he just kept getting things done. I was very impressed and paid him $100 USD towards his band trip to Disneyland in 3 weeks. Well worth it.

05-17-24 wonderful Friday

May 17, 2024

Today started early with the Culligan guy arriving to clean out the brine tank for my softener system. It needed it and I feel better now that it is done. I managed to get a bunch of chores done while he was at it and that felt good as well. I have been slacking on house stuff. He asked me when I was going to get my old jeep on the road as he has seen me driving it. I think I am going to see about doing that this weekend if the weather allows. I am a month later than last year.

At the office I did manage to get a lot done today on all fronts and was able to leave by 4:30, comfortable with taking at least the next two days, and maybe even three, off.

I stopped at Encore to pick up my new Friends With Benefits card and have a beverage. Sven popped in for some beer and sat down for a good visit. I know him through Cranbrook Tourism and JCI. He is a good guy who reminds me a lot of my friend Trevor from back in the day.

Once home, I relaxed, crocheted and watched the last two episodes of Young Sheldon. It is sad to know it’s over as I really enjoyed bot it and Big Bang Theory. They did wrap it up well though.
